From 1793 to 1806, the Republican calendar
You will often come across these abbreviations, particularly in records of births, marriages and deaths compiled by genealogical associations.
Months are sometimes abbreviated. There are several abbreviations. You will find two in the table opposite.
Example: 02/NI/AN04 or 02/NIVO/04 means 2 Nivôse an IV.

In parish registers
The last months of the year are sometimes abbreviated in parish registers. Think about the etymology of the words.
These abbreviations remind us that the year used to begin on 1 March. 8bre, for example, does not mean August but October. In October, there is Octo, which means 8, as in octogenarian.
